STEM Summer Camps and Conferences for Girls

Cultivating the Power Within: A Pipeline of Strategies for Success through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Summer Camps and Conferences for Girls

A project designed to provide continuing engagement during the summer for middle school girls through STEM summer camps developed to increase interest and participation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers, as well as the importance of mentoring, and personal development for success. This educational and inspirational outreach program to girls is an effort to promote positive attitudes towards STEM areas of study and to improve self-efficacy about STEM and STEM careers. The programs and conferences will utilize hands-on STEM activities and provide information about STEM careers through interaction with women of color in STEM fields to encourage girls to envision themselves as scientists and engineers. The STEM activities arise from a National Science Foundation project called Girls in the SYSTEM.
